Shalom my friends.
First off I must warn my readers concerning the following changes. Please read the about page. I was blind to true Judaism and the oneness of God. What I mean is this. For the last three and half years I have recited the Sh’ma, which is Israel’s defining understanding of the one true God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Deuteronomy 6: 4 – Hear, O Israel: HASHEM is our God, HASHEM is the one and only. Now I believe the above with all my heart, mind, soul and strength, yet I still accepted Yeshua. Why? I don’t know. Like many of my people I was not raised in a observant home. In other words my parents did not observe nor teach my siblings and I our Jewish heritage. There was no Sabbath services, no reading of the Jewish scriptures, no nothing. However I have spent the last three and a half years reading the Tanakh. Only recently were my eyes open to many lies that are taught not only in the Christian churches, but in the Messianic movement as well.
April 2003 I entered a Christian church for the first time (sadly to say) it was easter. Two weeks earlier I had a met a friend through business and he was quick to bait his hook. Like many Christian missionaries my friend thought this was his chance to bring a wandering soul into a relationship with Yeshua. At the time my wife was attending another church for a while and prayed to God that I would have the same desire. Well I mentioned to my wife the invitation we had received to attend my friends church for Easter service, which she had no issues with. Three weeks into our new sunday morning adventure the very same friend who introduced me to church came to me during alter call. He sat beside me and asked if I would consider going up, at first I was a little hesitant. To myself I was maybe embarrassed thinking, if I would to get up others might think, ‘Who is this gut that doesn’t know Jesus.’
Well I went up to the alter and repeated after the pastor and acknowledged that Jesus died on the cross for my sins. What did I know! Just a couple months earlier I told my wife that we could speak about anything, just as long as it wasn’t God.
Before I go on I must tell you, simply because a man is Jewish doesn’t mean he shouldn’t believe and because a man is a Gentile, is not an automatic reason to believe. We must make intelligent decisions based on the Word of God. The Word of God starts with Genesis chapter one, not John 3:16 Once we read the scriptures over and over until we see it in our dreams then we have the tools to know when we are being mislead.
After two years in the Christian church I had the thought to learn Hebrew. My father did not send me to Hebrew school nor did I have a Bar Mitzvah. At the age of thirty five I thought maybe its not to late to learn. My problem was this, ‘How I’m I going to learn Hebrew from a Rabbi when I have a relationship with Jesus.’ Of course at the time I didn’t want to disguise my relationship. Through a friend I heard of two groups labeled Jews for Jesus and Messianic Judaism. I opened my phone book and there I found one listed under Jewish/Christian. Immediately I grabbed the phone and called the number listed. Five days later I attended my first Shabbat service, in which I had the pleasure to carry the Torah.
Over a short period of time I began to grow. My spirit was alive, I was hungry for more. I believed I was finally home. Yes for a long time I believed that Messianic Judaism was where HASHEM wanted me. My wife and I danced during services, we attended many classes and grew spiritually. We kept Kosher, we observed Passover, Shavuot and the Feast of Tabernacles. On Rosh Hashanah we sounded the shofar, and we kept Yom Kippur. Again I thought I had it all.
Over time I questioned myself, ‘What about all our Jewish people who lived prior to Yeshua’s coming, what will happen to their souls. Surely they can’t be punished because of it.’ If we care to see it, the Tanakh is full of scripture, especially in the books of Isaiah and the psalms, telling us where our salvation comes from.
Isaiah 42: 5 – 13 - Fear not for I am with you; from the East I will bring your offspring and from the West I will gather you. I Will say to the North, ‘Give [them] over!’ and to the South, ‘Do not withhold! Bring My sons afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth, everyone who is called by My Name and whom I have created for My glory, whom I have fashioned, even perfected’; to liberate the people who are blind though they have eyes, and deaf though they have ears. Were all the nations gathered together and all the regimes assembled, who among them could have declared this and let us hear the early [prophesies]? Let them bring their witnesses and they will be vindicated; or else let them hear them say, ‘It is true.’ You are My witnesses - the word of HASHEM – and My servant whom I have chosen, so that you will know and believe in Me, and understand that I am He; before Me nothing was created by a god nor will there be after Me! I, only I am HASHEM, AND THERE IS NO DELIVERER ASIDE FROM ME. I have foretold and brought SALVATION and informed you; there was no strange [god] in your midst. You are My witnesses – the word of HASHEM – and I am God. Even before there was a day, I was He, and there is none who can save from My hand; when I act, who can reverse it?
Psalms 79: 1 – 9 - O God! The nations have entered into Your Inheritance, they have defiled the Sanctuary of Your holiness, they have turned Jerusalem into heaps of rubble. They have given the corpse of Your servants as food for the birds of the sky, the flesh of Your devout ones to the beasts of the earth. They have shed their blood like water round about Jerusalem, and there is none who buries. We have become an object of disgrace to our neighbors, of mockery of scorn to those around us. Until when, HASHEM, will You be ceaselessly angry, will Your Jealousy burn like fire? Pour Your wrath upon the nations that do not recognize You, and upon the kingdoms that do not invoke Your name. For they have devoured Jacob, and destroyed his habitation. Recall not against us the sins of the ancients; may Your mercies meet us swiftly, for we have become exceedingly impoverished. Assist us, O God of our Salvation, for the sake of Your Name’s glory, rescue us and atone for our sins for Your Name’s sake.
The truth must be accepted. From the two references listed above, is it not clear that HASHEM provides our salvation. There is no other. God does not want us to put our hopes in the strength of horse and chariot. How on earth can we expect to be sanctified and set apart to God if we imitate the nations around us. When our forefathers received the Torah, it wasn’t as though they received just any book, they received life! To what other nation aside from Israel has received such a thing. Each and everyone of us is to have a direct relationship with HASHEM, we do not need an [go between].
Yes Yeshua said that we can not go to the Father unless we go through him. So let us stop and think for a moment. Where is it written such a thing in the Torah? And the Prophets, did they not hear from God directly? Malachi 3: 7 – Since the days of your forefathers you have veered away from My laws and you have not observed them. Return to Me and I will return to you! Says HASHEM, Master of Legions; but you say, ‘For what should we repent?’
From the above verse seven of Malachi HASHEM clearly offers us a choice, and that is for us to return. The Hebrew word for turn is Teshuvah . HASHEM does not need to turn and approach you, you my friend need to turn and meet your Maker. To turn is to confess, acknowledge and repent, only then can we move forward.
How sad is it that the majority of the world does not know this. Every day people are preached the gospel and how the action of accepting Jesus as lord and savior will wipe clean past and future transgressions. Again I could not atone for your sins and you cannot atone for mine. Exodus 32: 30 – 35 - On the next day, Moses said to the people, “You have committed a grievous sin! And now I shall ascend to HASHEM - perhaps I can win atonement in the face of your sin.” Moses returned to HASHEM and said, “I implore! This people has committed a grievous sin and made themselves a god of gold. And now if You would but forgive their sin! – but if not, erase me from Your book that You have written.” HASHEM said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against Me, I shall erase from My book. Now go and lead the people to where I have told you. Behold! My angel shall go before you, and on the day that I make My account, I shall bring their sin to account against them.” Then HASHEM struck the people with a plague, because they had made the calf that Aaron had made.
To believe that God Himself came in the form of a man, only to have Himself persecuted and nailed to a cross so that the sins of the world would be forgiven is problematic. I was told recently not to put God in a box and that all things through Him are possible. First of all I believe also that nothing is impossible for God, all that was and is to be is formed in His hands. Abraham spoke with God one on one, and not only did he speak, he heard back as well. Imagine having in your home an individual that was a go between, between you and your spouse. How could it possibly work. What would happen to the intimacy, the closeness and the oneness. God Himself is the third party in our relationship. Blessed be His Name.
We know from studying the Torah that God is against the spilling of blood. Knowing this, should we as a people and as a nation believe for one second that HASHEM would put upon one man the iniquity of us all. To say yes is to say we don’t know God at all. I would like to label such belief as cheap grace. We don’t need blood to atone for sins, we need to repent and turn back to the source of life. When sacrifices were offered, they were offered on the alter and the blood of the sacrifice was sprinkled onto the corners of the alter. Let us take a look at the following.
Hosea 14:2 – 3 - Return, Israel, unto HASHEM your God, for you have stumbled in your iniquity. Take words with you and return to HASHEM; say to Him, ‘May You forgive all iniquity and accept good [intentions], and let our lips substitute for bulls.
So in other words, let us not sacrifice bulls to atone for us, because it is shallow in form. Let us take words with us and they should be as praise.
Isaiah 1: 2 – 4 – Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth, for HASHEM has spoken: “Children have I raised and exalted, but they have rebelled against Me. An ox knows his owner, and a donkey his master’s trough; but Israel does not know, My people does not comprehend.” Woe! [They are] a sinful people weighed down by iniquity, evil offspring, destructive children! They have forsaken HASHEM; they have angered the Holy One of Israel, and have turned their back to [Him].
Perhaps the journey I had taken will be helpful to others. Aside from the changes in my life I have a lot to be grateful for. When we think about it, the majority most of the time is correct. Meaning; with over two billion or so Christians in the world and maybe twenty million Jews, Christians look to the Jews as though they have a veil over their eyes. The time has come to close our bibles and begin at the beginning. One must ask himself what he’s willing to give up. When I left the Christian church and entered into Messianic Judaism I didn’t give up Yeshua, I gave up the pagan holidays and unclean foods. I too received much. The leap from Messianic Judaism to true Judaism is longer then the leap from Christianity to Messianic Judaism.
When I first joined the Messianic movement I had a friend who warned me not to get caught up in the law. Very unfortunate is that statement. The lies that are taught in main stream Christianity are so wide spread, one can liken it to cancer that has taken over the entire body. The only way to come out of it alive is to denounce it. Cut off the the head and the tail.
Scare tactics are used and are ancient. Have you ever had your face forced under ice water and held there until you couldn’t take it anymore. How about the forced conversions where you had a choice between kissing the cross or the end of a blade. How wrong of them to teach and scare non-believers into accepting Jesus for their salvation. Not one place in the Jewish scriptures is it written that accepting the blood atonement of Jesus would be needed in order to have eternal life. God is not man that He has to lie, and the virgin birth where is that written.
Our Christian people believe that they are truly free because of the false doctrine they hold to be true. Well if one accepts lies as truth and feel as though they are free, how much more for those of us who have true Torah to be free.
May HASHEM bless you through your studies.
It is funny (or not) how I came upon this site by chance (or not). How I can relate to your story so much and I am glad that you have found this path.
Especially since you were not given the opportunity to know Torah yet still, now you do.
I also did not have a Jewish upbringing but knew a little, my mother’s family became xtian and she only knew about Torah through my father who practiced. I am mixed race and it was difficult for us to be accepted into the Jewish Community (still is to some degree).
Anyway I just want to say keep up the good work, it is not just Jews who need salvation but all peoples.
