Shalom my friends.
How often I have read the Torah through the yearly cycle, and then some. For me it all began with our father Abraham. Long before the Torah was given, long before the battle of Jericho. To search is to desire. Did Abraham search? Yes indeed. We may think that Abraham did the work for us, that he laid the foundation. While a promise as well as a covenant stands as long as there is God, we to must search. Each year we recount the Exodus, and while the Exodus from Egypt was some three thousand yesrs ago, we must try to grasp the events in the here and now.
Let’s face it, between twitter, face book, texting and all the other distractions the world has to offer, is it any wonder the God of Abraham plays a small role in our world.
My feeling is that every man, woman and child is his or her own universe. We have become programmed. Robotic. There is in each of us the ability to redefine our tomorrows, the I in each of us.
Seventy-five were the years of Abram when he was called out from his surroundings, from his father’s house, a people he had dwelled with. Today at any age much younger than that of Abram, we would be fortunate to be willing to change our ways. To remove our familair borders, our safe havens and to step out of our comfort zones.
